Dove Men+Care has launched All Body Deo, a deodorant designed to protect the entire body without causing irritation. This innovation not only addresses a growing and long-silenced need, but also sets a new standard in men’s personal care—one that Dove describes as holistic, honest, and empathetic.
The discomfort of the unspoken
Talking about body odor remains taboo in many spaces—especially when it comes to men and areas such as the chest, feet, or groin. Although most men experience it, few talk about it. But the data doesn’t lie:
- More than 75% of men say they would be interested in a deodorant for other parts of the body, even if few admit it openly.
Until now, male hygiene had focused almost exclusively on the armpits. However, Dove Men+Care has decided to break that invisible barrier and provide a direct, effective solution: All Body Deo, a dermatologically tested product safe for use on multiple areas of the body, created to compete in the emerging whole-body deodorant category alongside brands like Axe Body Spray, Old Spice Total Body, and Rexona All Body Deo.
Science-backed innovation (with 20 years of dermatological research)
“All Body Deo is our response to a real, intimate, and everyday need: feeling fresh and confident at all times,” says Claudia Buenrostro, Marketing Director of Dove Deos Mexico.
“We know many men feel uncomfortable with odor in other parts of the body but don’t talk about it. We’re here to say: it’s okay to take care of yourself. And now there’s a product designed specifically for that,” she adds.
Formulated without aluminum, parabens, baking soda, or dyes—and enriched with vitamin E—All Body Deo was developed to be safe, gentle, and highly effective, even for sensitive skin. It has been dermatologically tested and is safe for use on areas such as the chest, feet, and groin.
A growing market (and fierce competition)
The whole-body deodorants category is booming globally. According to Mintel and Euromonitor, searches on Google and TikTok related to full-body deodorants have surged over the past three years. This year, legacy brands like Axe Body Spray, Old Spice Total Body, Secret, Native, Rexona All Body Deo, and now Dove Men+Care have all entered the competitive space.
But criticism hasn’t taken long to arrive.
Dr. Keren Landman, a physician and epidemiologist who contributed as a senior reporter for Vox, has examined the rise of this trend with a healthy dose of skepticism. In her research on the body deodorant industry, she cites experts who view these products as marketing tactics more than genuine needs:
“They’ve invented a problem so they can sell us a solution,” says biological anthropologist Andrew Best.
Critics argue that most body sweat (excluding armpits and groin) doesn’t produce significant odor, and eliminating it could unnecessarily disrupt the skin’s natural microbiome. Many of these products—especially aerosols—contain alcohol and fragrances that could irritate sensitive areas.
They also point out that social norms around body odor have historically been manipulated by commercial interests:
“Rejecting all natural body odors is culturally problematic. It’s a subtle symphony of scents that define you,” reflects Sarah Everts, author of The Joy of Sweat.
She also noted:
“The inventors of the first modern antiperspirant couldn’t get people to buy it for nearly a decade—sales only took off after a 1919 Ladies’ Home Journal ad suggested that women with insufficiently ‘delicate and sweet’ underarms would never find a husband.”
Revolution or exaggeration?
The big question for informed consumers is: Do I really need a deodorant for my entire body?
Experts like dermatologist Adam Friedman warn that these products can cause skin reactions if not used carefully. He advises avoiding mucous membranes and using them only on external, intact skin to reduce the risk of irritation.
Ultimately, sweat is not the enemy. It’s a biological function essential for regulating temperature and expressing individuality. Suppressing it entirely may be more of a cultural issue than a physiological one.
Dove Men+Care All Body Deo enters a crowded marketplace full of promises and competitors, but does so backed by dermatological expertise and a narrative that feels closer, more empathetic, and more conscious.
Is it a product that addresses a real need or a solution to a problem that never existed? The answer lies with each consumer.
What’s undeniable is that the conversation around male hygiene has changed—and Dove is determined to lead it with science, ethics, and style. What do you think?
