The video game industry is mourning the death of Vince Zampella, co-founder of Infinity Ward and one of the key architects behind the global success of Call of Duty. Zampella died at the age of 55 following a tragic car accident in Southern California, according to reports published by Xataka México citing local authorities and U.S. media.
The accident occurred around 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, on a scenic highway north of Los Angeles. According to NBC Los Angeles, Zampella’s vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier and subsequently caught fire, trapping the driver inside. A second passenger was transported to a hospital, where they later died due to injuries sustained in the crash.

As a co-founder of Infinity Ward, he helped create Call of Duty, a franchise that reshaped the first-person shooter genre with its cinematic storytelling, fast-paced combat, and realistic depiction of warfare.
